In 1869 at the age of twenty-seven William Lyell moved to Boston and bought the shop.
He then married Sarah Jane Burroughs and in 1895 had a son called James Smith.
About F M Lyell & Son
Lyells is the oldest family butchers in Boston.
James married Florence May Taylor and they had a son Charles William Lyell (known as Billy), in 1924.
The business to this day still makes 'hand-raised' pork pies using the families traditional recipe handed down through the generations and of course not forgetting their Lincolnshire Sausages mmmm..... yummy!
The shop is still where it has always been , 33 Wide Bargate, Boston.
Billy lied about his age and joined RAF Bomber Command at the age of seventeen and a half in 1941. Based in Suffolk he successfully completed twenty-nine missions as a rear gunner in the Avro Lancaster.
In 1945 he returned home marrying Nora Redford and took over the family business.
They had a daughter Christine, who now runs the business with her eldest son
Steven and his wife Rosemary.
Steven and Rosemary's two daughters also play an important part in the business.
